The BUTTERFLIE Program
Building Unity Through Teamwork, Empowerment, Respect, Friendship, and Leadership to Inspire Excellence

BUTTERFLIE is a mentoring program geared toward minority females, but females of all races are encouraged to participate. The program’s vision is to reflect the changing needs of minority females and to help them expand their educational, social and cultural experiences. This year, BUTTERFLIE will provide mentors to students and host several workshops and presentations.

EMPAC: Empowering Males with a Purpose to Achieve and Celebrate

The purpose of EMPAC is to assist minority males with the enhancement and development of needed social skills, to be a role model at home, in school, and in the community. EMPAC was implemented to increase retention and graduation rates; to increase personal development; to raise social and civic awareness; to promote leadership development; to promote cultural awareness and diversity; and to provide access to resources to meet life challenges.

EMPAC recently hosted a job readiness workshop during which employers from a local company presented job readiness skills. Many topics were discussed, including workplace attire, punctuality, resume preparation, job application completion and interviewing skills.

EMPAC will host leadership workshops during the 2006-2007 school year, participate in community service activities such as a Heart Walk sponsored by Nash General Hospital, adopt a family in partnership with DSS, and visit 4-year colleges.

EMPAC will also conduct fund raisers to generate additional funding for the program.
